Shock from heart device often triggers further health care needs

Shock from an implantable cardioverter defibrillator (ICD) may trigger an increase in health care needs for many patients, regardless whether the shock was appropriate needed or not. Whether the shock was appropriate or inappropriate patients often underwent invasive cardiac procedures afterward. Programming strategies that reduce ICD shocks may reduce healthcare costs and improve patient health.
